Originally from Metro Manila, Philippines, JP discovered his passion for cooking after moving to Canada and working in the industry as a teenager. He honed his craft by choosing to work for the best restaurants and chefs he knew of in Calgary and pursued his culinary studies and Red Seal Certificate at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Currently, JP is the Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Manager at The Red Deer Resort and Casino, and also a Private Chef who does custom high-end events for clients in Edmonton. His journey to becoming a professional chef was marked by dedication and perseverance, overcoming
numerous challenges along the way. JP’s culinary creations are celebrated for their perfection and creativity, often incorporating modern Asian or Filipino flavors.
JP has also gained recognition through his participation in prestigious culinary competitions, such as Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, where he won the top prize twice in his respective city Edmonton, won an episode on Firemasters food network, and is a 4-time People’s Choice awardee at the CCC. Most recently, in February, he took home the bronze medal at the Canadian Culinary Championships in Ottawa.
Through his innovative approach and commitment to excellence, JP has become a pivotal figure in Alberta’s vibrant culinary scene. His dedication to showcasing the rich and diverse flavors of the Philippines has not only introduced many to the delights of Filipino food but has also fostered a deeper appreciation for the culture and traditions behind each dish. Whether through his popular restaurant, engaging cooking classes, or community events, JP has created a platform that celebrates and elevates Filipino cuisine.
