Tomato Top100: Vote for the Restaurants of 5th St Food Hall!

It’s this time of the year again: voting for the Tomato Top100 is open. Last year, we had 3 dishes from our restaurants make the list, and we’d like to at least renew this feat, and even get these dishes even higher up the list!

We need your help to make it happen. You can vote on their website or comment on their Facebook or Instagram posts.

Below are the dishes that made the list last year and/or dishes the chefs at 5th St want to get on the list. You’ll see (if you don’t already know), they belong there!

Let’s renew Seitans’ listing!

Buffalo Chickun Pizza

Last year, Seitans’ Buffalo Chickun pizza made the list at #92 - and anyone who’s tried it knows it’s so delicious for vegans and omnivores alike that it should not only come back on the list, but be higher up!

What’s this Buffalo Chickun pizza about? You start with a homemade sourdough pizza crust (which is delicious by itself, but even better with toppings). Then you add house cashew-based ranch, buffalo chikun, raw gorgonzola cheeze, and you finish it with arugula and fresh dill. The inspiration behind this dish was to deconstruct the flavors of Buffalo wings with blue cheese ranch dip and get them onto a pizza… all of it entirely VEGAN (so no animal product or by-product anywhere).‍

Kale Caesar

Think of a classic caesar salad, vegan-ized! Made with fresh kale, aged oat parmesan cheeze, and topped with signature caesar dressing and noochoo crisps, there is a reason this is Seitans’ #1 best-seller.

Help get Meat Shack Barbecue on the list!

Smoked Beef Brisket

Rubbed with the house secret blend then smoked for 20 hours, Meat Shack’s brisket is tender, juicy, and flavourful with a subtle yet impactful smokiness (check the smoke ring next time you order it!). Served with your choice of homemade barbecue sauce (from sweet and smoky to bold and spicy), this level of barbecue belongs to the Tomato top100.

Smoked Beef Ribs

Meat Shack offers a big beef rib that is smoked for hours until the meat just falls off the bone (no knife needed) and each bite comes with a powerful smokiness. PS: You know it’s a good dish when Steven Sandor raves about it in Edify!

Don’t you think OilBurgers deserves a spot too?

Big McD Burger

The newest restaurant at 5th St, OilBurgers opened just before the end of 2022, offering gourmet burgers made with sustainable, local AB beef. After a month, the best-selling one (hands down) is the Big McD, a classic bacon cheeseburger made with delicious local ingredients. We’re convinced that even Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction would say “this is a tasty burger” when trying it!

Messy “Eh” Burger

Chef Cam’s (and possibly ours too) personal favourite, the Messy “Eh” burger includes a patty made from sustainable AB beef, creamed mushrooms, basil and melty Taleggio cheese (think fancy Brie with a fruitier flavour).

HOM should stay on the list!

Northern Thai Chicken Curry Noodle Soup (Khao Soi)

Last year, HOM’s Khao Soi made the list at #85. Even though HOM is about to move out of 5th St, it’s amazing chicken curry is not going anywhere and if you’ve tried it, you know it has a rightful place on the Tomato Top100.

A staple of Northern Thai cuisine, Khai Soi is a complex dish that delivers on all flavor profiles – rich, salty, sour, and savoury. Crispy and chewy egg noodles in an aromatic Khao Soi curry, with a tender chicken leg, tangy pickled mustard greens, shallots, and fresh herbs. Anyone who tries it praises the depth and complexity of flavors you taste in it.
